Bacillus Subtillus

SKU: N/A Category:

Bacillus subtillus is a bacteria in the phylum firmicute. It is a rod shaped endospore producing bacteria that can tolerate extreme conditions, including temperature, and pH. It is a facultative anaerobe that can live in a high or low oxygen conditions.

Bacillus subtilis is one of the bacterial champions in the production of enzyme secretion. Heavily flagellated and highly mobile in liquids and soil. B. subtilis can divide symmetrically or asymmetrically, by producing a single endospore that can remain viable for decades.  Spores remain resistant to unfavorable conditions such as drought, salinity, extreme pH, temperature, chemicals, solvents and radiation.

Prior to the process of sporulation cells may become motile by producing flagella that take up DNA from the environment to produce antibodies. These responses are attempts to seek out more favorable environmental conditions enabling the cells to make use of new beneficial genetic material or by killing off the competition. Bacillus subtilis has the ability to transfer DNA from similar bacterium from its surrounding medium under stressful conditions. It can re-combine it into its own chromosomes. B. subtilis creates secondary metabolites like amylase and proteases. This bacteria works synergistically with other Azobacteria to increase levels of soluble phosphate within soil by helping to release the phosphate bonds through complex biochemical process involving enzyme production.

Bacillus subtilis is a common Soil mobile microbe. Used as a foliar spray bacillus subtillus acts as a broad spectrum antimicrobial helping to outcompete and eliminate harmful microorganisms.

When use in conjunction with trichoderma B. subtilis has shown greater efficacy against controlling pathogens. Both in soil and on the phyllosphear of the plant.
